Friday, September 10 at 7:00 pm - Stories and Memories of Clifton Park’s Past. Town Historian John Scherer will present a powerpoint presentation that will include excerpts from his new book, More Bits of Clifton Park History. Hear about the wife who murdered her husband, the headless rooster that lived for three months without a head, and other interesting tales.

Saturday & Sunday, September 18 (9:00 am - 4:00 pm) & 19 (12:00 pm - 3:00 pm) - Farm Fest Tag Sale. The Friends of Historic Grooms Tavern will be holding their famous Tag Sale at the Tavern during the Town’s Farm Fest. As an added attraction, a quilt exhibit will be held through October 1. The quilt display will feature nineteenth century quilts, coverlets and samplers from the Town History Collection. These were all made by Clifton Park residents and range in date from 1819 to 1906.

Saturday & Sunday, September 25 & 26 (12:00 pm - 5:00 pm) – Small Museum and Historical Society Day. Sponsored by the Saratoga County History Center. Historic Grooms Tavern will be open to the public for tours led by volunteers from the Friends of Historic Grooms Tavern and will feature a quilt exhibit.

Friday, October 1 at 7:00 pm – This Old House: How to Determine the Age and History of a Building. Presentation and discussion led by Town Historian John Scherer. Following this presentation, Paul Szczesny of the Clifton Park Historic Preservation Commission will provide a demonstration of the new digital interactive map of Clifton Park historic structures. Friends of Historic Grooms Tavern will also be holding their annual meeting.

Saturday, October 9 at 1:00 pm - Autumn Bike Ride. Town Historian John Scherer leads a bike ride which begins at the Historic Grooms Tavern. The leisurely ride will follow along the Erie Canal towpath from Clute’s Dry Dock to the Lock 7 Dam. There will be 8 informational stops along the way. Riders must have helmets. Distance is about 13 miles, mostly level. The Autumn Bike Ride is co-sponsored by the Mohawk Towpath Byway.

Sunday, November 7 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Book Launch for “Saratoga County Stories.” Join the Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum for this local book launch held at Historic Grooms Tavern. Town Historian John Scherer is one of the authors featured in this book, which includes 60 articles previously released by the Saratoga County History Roundtable. Books will be available for sale and authors will be present for book signings.

Friday, December 3 at 7:00 pm - Toastmasters and Public Speaking. Speaker Gurinder Garcha DTM has been involved with Toastmasters for more than 15 years. He will talk about Toastmasters International, educating audience about what Toastmasters can do for members of the community in obtaining leadership, communication, and public speaking skills. Please join us to explore the best way to communicate with others and understanding the art of public speaking.

Friday, January 7, 2022 at 7:00 pm - Twelfth Night Holiday Open House. Prolong your holidays and come celebrate Twelfth Night, hosted by the Friends of Historic Grooms Tavern! Town Historian, John Scherer will present “Early Dutch Settlers of Clifton Park, their architectural styles and decorative arts.” Open house and holiday refreshments.

Friday, February 4, 2022 at 7:00 pm - Tri City Paranormal Group. The Tri City Paranormal Group have been working in the Historic Grooms Tavern and would like to share their findings. They will tell stories of spirits and history they have discovered at the Tavern and other local investigations.

Friday, March 4, 2022 at 7:00 pm - Let’s Talk About It Now. As part of Townley & Wheeler’s ongoing series of educational events to benefit the community, we invite you to “Let’s Talk About It Now” a presentation and conversation about the benefits of planning your final arrangements in advance. This program will be led by Kathleen A. Lowes Sanvidge, a licensed funeral director and owner of Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home.
